Brushing Routine

Brush 3-4 times per week with a pin brush, slicker brush, and undercoat rake to maintain their medium-long, white double coat. The outer coat is wavy with a dense, woolly undercoat. Use line brushing through the neck mane, chest frill, and rear feathering. A long-toothed metal comb catches hidden tangles close to the skin.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 6-8 weeks with a whitening or brightening shampoo to maintain the brilliant white coat. Follow with a light conditioner to prevent breakage. The white coat shows discoloration easily, so thorough rinsing and complete drying are essential. Use a high-velocity dryer as the dense coat retains moisture.

Common Issues

• Heavy seasonal shedding of large volumes of white fur
• Tear staining on the white face
• Matting in the neck ruff and behind ears
• Yellowing or staining of the white coat
• Hot spots from trapped moisture in thick undercoat

Extend Your Grooming Results

The bright white coat requires regular attention to staining prevention. Wipe the face daily to prevent tear staining. Use a waterless whitening spray between baths to maintain brightness. Regular undercoat raking prevents the dead undercoat from trapping moisture and causing odor. Keep the coat clean and dry.

Seasonal Care

Kuvasz blow their heavy undercoat once or twice a year, producing enormous volumes of white fur over 2-4 weeks. Daily raking with an undercoat rake is mandatory during this period. Summer coat is significantly thinner. Winter coat grows in at maximum density with a full mane and feathering. Never shave as the white coat protects against sunburn.
