Brush once a week with a rubber curry brush or bristle brush to remove loose undercoat and distribute natural oils through the short, dense double coat. During shedding seasons, increase to 2-3 times weekly and add an undercoat rake to manage the heavier shed. Despite the short appearance, the coat has a substantial undercoat.

Bathing Tips

Bathe every 8-10 weeks using a de-shedding or moisturizing shampoo. Avoid over-bathing, as it strips the natural oils that keep the dense coat healthy and water-resistant. Use warm water and dry thoroughly. A high-velocity dryer works well to blast out loose undercoat during the bath routine.

Seasonal Care

Rottweilers shed their undercoat in spring and fall. In Houston heat, keeping the undercoat raked out helps the dog stay comfortable. The black coat absorbs heat, so limit intense outdoor activity in peak summer. In winter, the double coat provides good insulation and fills in naturally.
